Educational Psychology 5151: Structuring Learning;
Social Psychological Approaches

This is the foundational course for using cooperative learning.
Participants learn how to structure learning situations cooperatively.
This includes (a) understanding what cooperation is, the basic
elements that make it work, the teacher's role in using cooperation,
and the research validating its use as well as (b) actually using
cooperative learning in instructional situations. This course
provides practical foundation level training for structuring
cooperative learning groups and implementing cooperative lesson
structures.
Educational Psychology 8150: The Psychology of Conflict
Resolution

This course is designed to promote mastery of the theory and
research in the field of conflict resolution. Topics studied
include the nature of conflict, the history of theorizing about
conflict, strategies for resolving conflicts, distributive and
integrative negotiations, and third party interventions. Conflict
theory and research is applied to practical situations. Improving
the conflict resolution skills of students is emphasized.
Educational Psychology 5150: The Social Psychology
of Education

This is a broad, introductory course that covers the major areas
of social psychology with specific emphasis on applied settings
such as education. Students are expected to master the theory
and research in the field of social psychology, become familiar
with the major theorists in the field, and apply the knowledge
learned to applied settings. Topics covered include social perception,
social interdependence, social interaction, social influence,
conflict resolution, and group dynamics.
Educational Psychology 5154: Organizational Development
and Change

Students are expected to master the theory and research in the
field of organizational development and change. Topics covered
include using a variety of procedures to diagnosis the current
effectiveness of organizations and intervene to increase organizational
effectiveness. Areas of diagnosis and intervention include organizational
goals and objectives, communication, leadership, power and influence,
decision making, and conflict resolution. Organizational and
social psychological theory and research is applied to practical
situations. Students diagnosis and intervention skills are improved.
Educational Psychology 5155; Small Group Dynamics
And Shared Decision Making

Sec. 1, No prereq., 3 cr., Winter Quarter (odd years)
Students are expected to master the theory and research in the
field of group dynamics. Topics covered include setting clear
and operational group goals, communicating, leadership, power
and influence, decision-making, controversy and creative problem
solving, and conflict resolution. Group dynamics theory and research
is applied to practical situations. Students small group skills
are improved. Students also improve their consultation skills
in diagnosing and intervening in groups to improve their effectiveness.
Special attention is focused on setting up and conducting shared
decision making procedures within groups and organizations.
