David W. Johnson's Résumé
David W. Johnson is a Professor of Educational Psychology
at the University of Minnesota where he holds the Emma M. Birkmaier
Professorship in Educational Leadership. He is Co-Director of
the Cooperative Learning Center. He received a masters and a
doctoral degree from Columbia University. He is a past-editor
of the American Educational Research Journal. He has published
over 350 research articles and book chapters. He is the author
of over 40 books (most co-authored with R. Johnson) including:

Some of his national awards include the following. In 1972
he received a National Research Award In Personnel And Guidance
from the American Personnel and Guidance Association and in 1981
he received the Gordon Allport Award for outstanding research
on intergroup relationships from Division Nine of the American
Psychological Association. In 1984 he received the Helen Plants
Award presented by the American Society for Engineering Education.
In 1986 he received the National Research Award in Social
Studies. In 1988 he received the Professional Advancement
Award for Outstanding Research from the Association for Specialists
in Group Work (Division of American Association for Counseling
and Development). In 1990 he received Ball State University's
Outstanding Alumni of the Year Award, the Award for Outstanding
Contribution to American Education presented by the Minnesota
Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and the
Award for Enhancing Student Achievement Through Cooperative
Learning presented by the Southwest Ohio Planning Council
for Inservice Education. In 1994 he received the Excellence
In Teaching Award for Significant Contributions to Education
Throughout the World and for Excellence in Teaching presented
by the Department of Defense Schools, Panama, the 1994 McGill
University Center for Educational Leadership Award for outstanding
contributions to Quebec education, and the Emma M. Birkmaier
Professorship in Educational Leadership (1994 - 1997) awarded
by the College of Education, University of Minnesota. In 1996-1997
he was the Libra Endowed Chair, Visiting Professor, University
of Maine at Presque Isle. He is currently listed in Marquis'
Who's Who in the World.
For the past 35 years David has served as an organizational
consultant to schools and businesses in such areas as management
training, team building, ethnic relations, conflict resolution,
interpersonal and group skills training, drug abuse prevention,
and the evaluating of attitudinal/affective outcomes of educational
and training programs. He is a recognized authority on experiential
learning and currently provides training for clients in North
America, Central America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and
the Pacific Region. He is a practicing psychotherapist.
